Volvo Art Session

Mar 06 2011 Published by under Collaborations, G Shock

Ever think how sweet it would be to be able to paint on your ride? For 5 days, Volvo took that idea and brought in artists from all over the world to paint on their car (Volvo S60). At Glattbrugg in Zurich main station from February 9th to 13th, ten artists gave their piece of mind as they sprayed and styled the same canvas over and over again. Creating ten distinctive and ephemeral works of art, documented by photographer Michel Comte. The performance was said to be thrilling with energy and dynamism, and spectators and the artist created a dialogue (non-spoken), but experienced through this installation and the public space. Artist Wes 21 had the honour of finishing the S60 with the final coat of his creation which will be on display at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 13th 2011. Here are the footage of the event, along with further videos on Volvo’s website.

How To Sell A Banksy

After the positive review and Oscar nomination of the film Exit Through the Gift Shop, the hype had given Banksy a big fat raise reportedly of 25% over their presale estimates. Sotheby’s of London sold “Heavy Weaponry”, a painting of an elephant with a machine gun strapped to its back, for £82,250 (about $135,000) last week. It had been estimated to sell for £18,000. What was even funnier was that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts of Sciences released a statement on February 27th saying that this alleged Oscar nomination for Best Documentary was a hoax! Regardless, this just further brings out the vulnerability of blogging; as the authenticity of information coming from an unidentified street artist is very hard to prove—till this day we still don’t know who Banksy is.

Now how is it possible to sell art that is pasted onto street walls for free, you might say. Do these ‘dealers’ go around ripping his pasting off the wall? Where would this auction even take place? How To Sell A Banksy answers these questions, at the same time raises questions of ownership, authentication and the true value of art itself. The film’s release date is yet to be announced, so stay tuned as we give you a follow up. If you are looking for a streetwear watch then checkout our full range on Nuwatches all available with free delivery and 30 day money back guarantee.
