LIP BIG TV Watch

The history of the LIP watches dates back to 1807, when Emmanuel Lipmann created a chronometer watch which was gifted to Napoleon Bonaparte by the inhabitants of the region. 60 years later, Emmanuel’s grandson Ernest opened an atelier in Besancon and in 1896, the word LIP appeared for the first time while designing the chronometer LIP.

LIP watches were one of the first premier French brands to invest heavily in publicity and advertising and in 1914 Lip Watches began supplying their brand of watches to the French military officers. In 1948 the French government presented Winston Churchill with a Lip watch, was widely seen as a huge accolade to the company at that time.

The company first started mass producing watches for the military in the First World War. It evolved in the late 1960’s as the company hired some famous industrial designers to elaborate a new “design” range of watches. They included Francois de Baschmakoff and Roger Tallon, one of France’s best known industrial designers, who designed the iconic TGV high speed train and the Paris Metro map. Later in 1975, Roger Tallon designed the Big TV watches, and instantly became a classic design of the era. It has a characteristic of prominent square “coffin” case, and a bold, thick leather strap, combined with a simple watch face.

LIP watches continued to enjoy success up until the 1980’s when the company suffered from huge financial and internal political problems. By the early 1990’s however, Jean-Claude Sensemat took over Lip Watches and founded the LIP France Company. From this point on they have continued to slowly recovery the pedigree they rightly deserve.

The whole range oozes Parisian style with bold lines and sold materials. If you are looking to distinguish yourself from your peers then you should definitely consider buying a Lip watch. Available to buy on NuWatches

Other modifications include black or all chocolate brown color finishes, also available with sleek steel strap to match the watch face in either chocolate or brown. The regular hour, minute and second hand movement is also replaced with a new hour, minute, second revolving disc movement. There has been a revival of the 1970s vintage watches, and the The Big TV watches are still iconic to this day, proving that good design is timeless.

Two weeks ago, we covered an entry regarding of how although with the transition of the digital age, watches are still revered as necessary for some (from ages 25-40) either for practical uses or style. For the younger generations however, watches are on their way out. High school kids don’t particularly wear them anymore, as they prefer their cell phones as timepieces. Some consider them as ‘superfluous’. What kids seem to care about is how to stay connected to their social network, which leads to our main point of the article of a new hi-tech watch concept. Hewlett-Packard and Fossil are developing a watch intended to be the “aggregation point” or wi-fi hotspot for a variety of gadgets. The MetalWatch concept serves the watch as a central hub for any device to connect to the net, at the same time sync information across gadgets. Meetings, alarms, messages can be conversed 2-ways. So that rather than having a cell phone as a bare essential when you go out, the MetalWatch aims to keep the watch tradition alive.

So what do you guys think of this concept? It would be nice to have a watch in the near future that you could talk into for calls, or have it have Bluetooth capability to wireless headphones so there would be no more wires to worry, or a big lump or square in your pocket when you walk.

For now check out these gorgeous metallic Lip Watches, both analogue and digital, fusing functionality with style. We offer FREE shipping and a 30-Day-Money-Back-Guarantee at NuWatches.
